In 2015, the United Nations (UN) Member States adopted a shared vision and plan of action for peace and prosperity for the people and the planet. The agenda for sustainable development puts forth 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that serve as an urgent call for action for all countries to build a global partnership for sustainable development to improve human lives while protecting the environment.
The Corporation recognizes the importance of understanding stakeholder expectations and getting their feedback in assessing which material topics it should focus on. The Corporation identified its important stakeholders and determine its primary engagement methods and policy/activities to address stakeholder concerns, as follows:
Guided by the GRI Standards and the UN SDGs, PSC commenced its documentation and reporting process of sustainability practices, through a workshop facilitated by a GRI representative with key officers/employees from its business units, subsidiaries and affiliates. The SDGs that PSC supports are as follows:
Support health and nutrition with supplementary feeding, medical check-ups and promote practice of personal hygiene with supply of hygiene kits for “GNK” (mobile van learners) beneficiaries.
Offer activities that promote health and wellness across demographics such as the annual 7-Eleven Run and Trail events. Provide its employees at all levels with health insurance and recreational and wellness activities such as yearly sports tournament. after work fitness classes, nutrition, and work-life balance programs.
Provide communities where 7-Eleven operates access to qualify Early Childhood Care and Development Facility (ECCD) education through an Alternative Learning Facility (ALF) called the Gulong ng Karunungan (GNK) – an educational facility in a mobile van. Provide a Scholarship Program for deserving undergraduate PSC employees for career growth. Continuing education of employees under PSC’s University of Seven Eleven Program (USEP).
Promote a diverse workforce through practice / enforcement of equitable treatment of all genders.
Create sustainable jobs in areas where 7-Eleven stores are located. Adheres to general labor standards and occupational health and safety standards. Offers business opportunities to qualified employees and individuals with a 7-Eleven franchise.
Convenience in digital transactions such as online shopping, bills/merchant payment, use of e-money through its CLiQQ Shop, 7-Connect/CLiQQ App and CLiQQ pay services respectively.
Promote equal opportunity for men and women through providing pay based on performance.
Develop a playground park under its ”Every Day Play” program within community public spaces for accessible green, safe public spaces for a friendly and healthy community.
Reduce and manage waste generated in its operations through reduction of use of plastic utensils, use of paper bags in stores instead of plastic bags, and waste segragation.
Adopt energy-efficiency measures.
Support initiatives on environment reforestation such as Tree Planting that promote sustainable management of forests and reversal of loss of environmental resources particularly in identified critical watersheds in the country.
Pursue public-private and civil society partnerships through supporting Distaster Relief Operations of the government and providing immediate relief and sustenance to displaced families/individuals and volunteers during a major disaster/calamity.
Through the workshop, PSC also identified the economic, social and environmental impact of its business activities and the baseline metrics to determine such impact. Important stakeholders and the Corporation’s policies to respond to their concerns were also determined.
Material topics significant to its operations were also identified during the workshop. These topics were further validated through several engagement sessions with key officers/employees of relevant business units who deal directly with its external stakeholders, after the workshop.
